TECHNICAL SKILLS SUMMARY
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE October 2000 to Present, Consultant, Colorado Systems & Desktop Administrator Consultant
Multiple engagements working with the virtualization of servers and workstations from very large to small business environments. Technologies included Unix (Solaris, BSD, Linux), Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Firewalls, Switches, VOIP, SAN, and NAS. Solutions include complete datacenter build out, maintenance, and datacenter upgrades.
Marquee projects to date*:
* Several large scale projects are classified at this time and could not be included.
City and County of Denver The City and County of Denver has several thousand servers and workstations and is moving to a server-thin client solution using a mix of Sun Servers, Sun Solaris, Sun Ray Services Software, Microsoft Terminal Services Server, VMWare ESX, and Sun Ray thin clients (DTU’s). Involved in architecting and implementing the solution with the client.
Merrick Corporation Merrick is large scale construction and geospatial services company that has unique data transportation and backup requirements. Merrick has transitioned several departments in separate offices to a server-thin client solution. Was brought on to move the deployment from a proof of concept to an enterprise deployment to continue the transition to a thin client solution. Duties included architecting an enterprise deployment solution to include failover, high availability, data transportation and backup, as well as troubleshooting issues when running client applications on thin clients. Technologies included Microsoft Terminal Services Server, Sun Servers, Sun Ray Services Software, and Sun Ray thin clients (DTU’s).
Teachers-Teachers Teachers-Teachers is the world’s largest education hiring internet company. Teachers-Teachers currently has over five hundred thousand candidates and eighteen thousand schools signed up for the service, and is a heavily used site with over twenty five million page views per year. High availability and failover solutions were critical to this company, and low cost solutions were found by the virtualization of a large number critical servers and applications to a small number of physical servers. This allowed the server farm monitoring software to mount specific guest machines on the physical servers as needed. This provided a high level of failover and server/application availability without the cost that would required for the large number of physical servers to fill the various availability and backup roles. Technologies included Watchguard Firewalls, Microsoft Virtual Server, VMWare ESX, and VMWare View.
X2Delta Networks (Web Hosting Datacenter) X2Delta is a small to mid range data center that specializes in older server and application support through co location and managed services. Transitioned client to a virtual server environment that consolidated underutilized equipment. Worked with client to make it possible to quickly build out new guest machines that required operating systems that would no longer function on the current generation of hardware. In two months, X2Delta had increased their managed server footprint by two hundred percent without having to acquire any new hardware. Consolidated several disparate SAN and NAS storage solutions into an integrated, highly available environment. Technologies included Microsoft Virtual Server, Windows Active Directory, Windows Domain Controllers, Solaris VirtualBox, VMWare ESXi, Cisco PIX, Cisco ASA, ZFS, and iSCSI.
