CAREER OBJECTIVE Engagements working with clients utilizing cutting edge technology that utilize my experience in systems administration, development skills and management experience in full project life cycle positioning, development, and implementation in SQL Database Administration (DBA) & SQL technologies.
TECHNICAL SKILLS SUMMARY
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE October 2000 to Present, Consultant, Consultant
Multiple DBA, development, and system administration engagements working with Corporate Internets, Intranets, and Web Hosting solutions in mixed environments. Technologies included Windows (NT through 2008) as well as Unix (Solaris, BSD, Linux). Solutions include complete datacenter build out, maintenance, and datacenter upgrades.
Established and maintained SQL Server deployments in data centers, mid size, and small businesses. Deployments included installation, monitoring (via SQL Agent and other tools), job deployment and monitoring, near real time replication (both through SQL’s publication/subscription tools and custom built tools), activity monitoring, tracing, and debugging (via SQL Trace), database health.
As a developer, responsible for vision, design, and
development of database architecture, including all aspects of table
normalization, keys, indexes, relationships, and constraints. Table
design relied heavily on UDT’s and Rules associated to those UDT’s, with
relationships clearly defined. Overall development design relied
heavily on the use of stored procedures and views for queries, and DTS for
any data extract/import needs. Database security focused heavily on
integrated
Established and maintained standards & practices for initial datacenter deployment, day to day operations, SQL Server database backup and replication, standby servers, Active Directory Maintenance, virus monitoring, and deployment of clustering technology.
Marquee projects to date:
Vacation Rentals (Intranet Site) Client runs a vacation properties rental business that had an enormous amount of data in various forms (excel, paper, MS Access, third party vendors) which needed to be integrated into a single set of accessible data through a web interface. Was brought on to help client reconcile the various data points into one single source, accessible through a common interface. Visioned, designed, and developed complete database and web solution. Extensive use was made of SQL’s DTS functionality to integrate external data feeds into the client’s database. Added full text catalogs to allow the customer to sort through large amounts of data efficiently. Technologies included Cold Fusion, SQL Server 2000.
Catholic Store, Inc (Intranet/internet data center) Brought in as a SA/Developer for a
small business with an eCommerce web site as well as a custom built internal
X2Delta Networks (Web Hosting Datacenter) Managed and hands on work on a new
build out, from the vision to implementation phase of a data center build
out. Environment is a mixed Windows and Linux environment, with Windows
running ads, web, ftp, mail, and database services; and Linux running
firewall and domain name services. Designed and implemented a custom
web management solution for the data center which heavily leverages DOT.
Sanford Homes (Intranet site only) Sanford Homes is national
homebuilder, and has its headquarters in
Got a Job (no longer in business) Got a job was a startup designed to match employers of high turnover companies (fast food for example) to potential employees. Brought on as a project manager, I was responsible for troubleshooting and fixing a problematic development team methodology and structure, as well as a poorly designed data center and code base. Moved client in house development and data center teams to latest releases of Cold Fusion and Windows.
